About Mike and his wine collection

“I was fortunate to have grown up at a time when great wine was still available at a very reasonable price. I was even more fortunate to have received a wine education from restaurateur extraordinaire, David Wolfe, whose eponymous London restaurant had an unbeatable wine list, stuffed with the magnificent Bordeaux of 1928 and 1929.

“Wine is a convivial drink. A bottle shared between friends is doubly delicious. In about 1990 I founded a wine club, The Interesting Wine Club, which hosted tastings and dinners at top London restaurants where convives could taste the pinnacles of wine, together with great food, amongst fellow wine lovers (the club caught the attention of Jancis Robinson who wrote it up in the Financial Times).

“We moved to France in 2000 together with, by then, a substantial cellar and my passion for, knowledge and collection of, wine has continued unabated. Vintages are mainly of the period from 1947 to 1990 but I have bottles going as far back as 1815 (my collection is especially strong in fine Riojas which, by and large in my opinion have lasted better than their French cousins). I feel that the time has finally come to open my cellar to other enthusiasts and give them the opportunity to taste some of the very best wines, many of which are no longer widely available.”

Red, white and sweet wines; French, Spanish, Italian and German. Let us have a date (someone’s birth year?) if you have one, your preferences and questions, and we will contact you with Mike’s considered suggestions and catalogued prices for you to choose from..  As a cherry on the cake, each purchased bottle will be presented in a beautiful box, hand-covered in fabric from our own collection, with your personalised message and a little history of the wine and its grape. Once you’ve decided we will invoice you.

Prices range from 65€ to 450€ per bottle + postage.
