24th - 28th July 2018
3 full days of workshop + arrival day & departure day / 4 nights
If you're passionate about creativity, music - and Jazz, Blues and Boogie Woogie in particular - wish to move on from whatever stage of musical ability you are at and are open to challenge, then this is the workshop for you. Immerse yourself in a week of learning new Jazz skills with likeminded people, mentored by one of the US's favourite jazz/blues pianists, saxophonists and singers, Deanna Bogart. Improve your playing skills, establish a basic foundation from which to progress, construct solos, learn to accompany yourself and other players, or simply discover your individual and unique musical roots.
This event is designed to help students approaching jazz for the first time, as well as more advanced players, and professionals looking to "sharpen their edges". Non-musicians wanting to learn more about jazz are also welcome to join in the excitement to see just how far and fast they can engage.. This, our first Jazz Masterclass, offers participants an opportunity to take a break from the stresses of everyday life and become completely immersed in the musical magic of jazz. It is a rare opportunity to develop or improve playing skills alongside a celebrated musical talent, and establish your personal foundation from which to progress - or simply discover individual and unique musical roots. With her musicality and ability to connect, Deanna will embrace each individual’s aptiitude and introduce them to the process of tackling their fears and challenges in a heartwarming and encouraging way using guidance, inspiration and exciting challenges. The workshop includes entry to our Blues & Boogie public concert on Saturday evening (28th).

Born in Detroit, Deanna spent her early years in Phoenix and New York City, climbing on any available piano bench to plunk and play with preternatural panache. Around the age of six, she was "gently removed" from the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music for playing piano by ear instead of learning to read music. She is an award-winning, multi-instrumentalist musician and recording artist whose fusion of blusion -- spontaneous, sophisticated, fearless and fun -- has garnered her three consecutive Blues Music Awards' Horn Instrumentalist of the Year and has won her more than 20 Wammies, the music awards for the hotly contested Washington, D.C. region. Perennially popular, with a knack for engaging her audience, Deanna easily wins hearts with her dazzling keyboards, soulful saxophone and smoky vocals. Jet-setting from festival to festival she still finds time to mentor students of all ages and has spearheaded workshops, one-on-one sessions and classes in schools throughout North America, Panama and Brazil.
