Creative Writing: Five Senses and a Pen
days
Workshop overview
Too often, prose is one dimensional, flat, dead on the paper and on the tongue. Why?
Because as writers we cut ourselves short, failing to use all of the weapons in our arsenal. Addressing both fiction and non-fiction, this workshop is designed for writers of all levels.
Experience is made up not just of sight – what did it look like? - but of smell, sound, texture, and taste. When writing involves them all, the experience is deepened, the reader drawn in. Even a tiny incident comes alive. During the five day workshop with Lucretia you will begin to explore the crucial question – How do I make an experience live on the page? How do I give it texture and mood? How do I stretch and flex all five senses to come to the aid of my pen?
Structured sessions in the mornings will include in-class writing exercises as well as discussions and work on dialogue, tone, and the crucial element of pacing. Afternoons will be dedicated to one-on-one conferences. Time allowing, we'll also set up discussions about specific books or other writing topics, as the group wishes. And, of course, the actual workshop sessions, where you will see the practical application of all the ingredients.
