Workshop overview

Drawing from the historical relationship between botanical illustration and stitch work, the renowned French artist and sculptor, Catherine Girardeau-Willis, will use her first workshop in the stunning surroundings of Les Soeurs Anglaises to inspire and direct participants in the creation of their own unique botanical "illustrations" and "sketchbook".

Catherine’s unorthodox approach is to observe and use the colour and form of fragrant plants, leaves, seeds, nuts, and other organic materials, and to translate them into remarkable botanical collages of great beauty. Using different artistic techniques and media - botanical watercolour, charcoal, pastel, imprints, collage, ink drawing with a reed pen, organic pigments and the art of mise en page - she will share her vision and creative techniques with participants throughout the five-day workshop.

There will be an opportunity during the workshop to discuss, individually and as a group, in which format the finished pieces should be presented and how this can best be achieved.
