Workshop overview

This is a rare opportunity to work alongside Rachel Hazell, a consummate and internationally acclaimed bookbinder, artist and photographer, in the exquisite and inspiring surroundings of the Les Soeurs Anglaises venue in South West France. This will be the first of many workshops that Les Soeurs Anglaises will be running in association with the cutting-edge, internationally distributed textile magazine Selvedge.

Over five days, RachelHazell, who has taught bookbinding all around the world - on ships, small islands, in lighthouses and at book festivals - will share her textural experiences and help you develop skills to create personalised and beautiful journals using maps, envelopes, embroidered letters, stitched-in pages, mini-books, manuscript paper, obsolete novels, ribbons and much, much more. Your Extraordinary Expandable Sketchbook Journal will be an explosion of stories, pictures, drawings, poems, found text, images, lines, patterns, paintings, lists, ideas, and texture - an utterly personal and unique work of art.
